[NOTE:  The following brief family history was written by Mrs. Leonard Vanden Bosch for a "Vanden Bosch Family Record" book compiled in 1965 by Mrs. Tillie De Kam and Mrs. Elizabeth De Kraai. GTVB]

"Our grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Tomma Vanden Bosch, came to America in 1848.  In 1930, we went to Zeelean, Michigan, and visited their graves.  The Graves are located on the farm of Mrs. Evers, two miles north of Zeeland.  The engravings on the tomb stone is as follows: Tomma Vanden Bosch, born March 20, 1795.  Died in the Lord 1874.  Grietj Vanden Bosch, nee Bonts, born 1797 and died in the Lord November 24, 1865.

"The following are the names of their children: Konoe, Peter, Mollo, Jakob, Annegjo, Ane, Tallegjo, and Johannas.

"Our father, Johannas, was the youngest child in the family.  In March, 1877, he moved to Iowa.  There he bought land for $5.00 an acre.  He didn't like the prairie land of Iowa and after a few months, moved back to Michigan.  The family lived in Michigan about four years during which time our dear mother died.  She died on May 3, 1881 at the age of 36 years.  Her death left 10 children motherless and the youngest son was cared for by Tallegjo, Mrs. Jan Scholton, but died when he was four months old.

"In 1882, he married Cornelia Vander Heida.  In 1883, they moved to Harrison, So. Dakota.  During the first summer, the lived in a small sod house with a ground floor.  Keeping dry during rainy weather was quite a problem.

"In 1893, they left Harrison and moved to Leota, Minnesota.  After a few years, they left the Leota community and settled near Pease, Minnesota.  The trip from Leota to Pease was made in a covered wagon which he made himself.  From Pease they moved to Wright county, Iowa, where he died on June 5, 1905 at the age of 63."
